What does "fully funded" solar actually mean?
It means you don't pay to buy or install the system. Our accredited installation partner funds the whole installation, owns and maintains it, and you simply buy the solar electricity it generates at a fixed, lower price through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). There's no capital outlay from you.
Do I own the panels?
During the agreement, the panels are owned and maintained by our installation partner — that's what removes the upfront cost and the maintenance burden from you. At the end of the agreement you typically have options: you can purchase the solar system outright for a nominal fee, or extend the agreement at an even lower price per kWh.
How long is the agreement?
Funded solar agreements typically run for between 10 and 25 years. The exact term is confirmed in your estimate and depends on the system size and design. Over that period you benefit from a fixed, lower price for your solar power.
How much could I save?
Most suitable businesses save in the region of 30–40% on the electricity that solar covers, because the fixed solar rate is well below typical grid day rates. Your actual saving depends on your roof, how much power you use during daylight hours, and your current rates — your personalised estimate comes from a full design.
What happens if I move or sell the building?
This is a common and important question. Because the agreement relates to the building, it can usually be transferred to the new owner or tenant as part of the sale or lease — the cheaper energy simply becomes a benefit you pass on. The specifics are covered in the agreement, and our partner's team will walk you through the options before you commit.
My building is leased — can I still do this?
Possibly, yes. Because the system is fixed to the roof for the length of the agreement, you'll generally need your landlord's consent. Many landlords are happy to agree because it improves the building without cost to them. Tell us it's leased in the score tool and we'll flag it so it's handled properly.
Is there a credit check?
Because the installation is funded on your behalf, our partner will carry out a standard business credit assessment before finalising an agreement — similar to any commercial finance. It doesn't affect getting your indicative Solar Funding Score, which is free and no-obligation.
What kind of business is this best suited to?
Funded solar works best for businesses that use a lot of electricity during daylight hours and have a large, suitable roof — typically over 150,000 kWh a year and around 750 m² or more of usable roof. Manufacturing, logistics and warehousing, food and beverage, and similar sites are usually a strong fit. Not sure? The score tool tells you in 60 seconds.
What if my roof isn't suitable?
If funded solar isn't the best fit — perhaps your usage or roof is below the threshold, or the roof type needs a survey — we won't waste your time. Instead, our colleagues at Business Utility Renewals can look at cutting your energy costs through smarter procurement. One quick form, and we'll point you to whichever saving suits you best.
Is there any cost or obligation to get a score?
None at all. The Solar Funding Score and any resulting estimate are completely free and carry no obligation. You only proceed if the numbers make sense for you.
